December sees the winners announced for Loo of the Year Awards.
They have been going since 1987 and the public can vote for (amongst 60 award categories) the best accessible loo for disabled people and best changing places toilet/hygiene room.
Entrants pay a fee which covers their unannounced inspection visit for judging.
This year (end of 2013) the UK trophy winners for access were Mc.Donald’s with Ceredigion County Council winning the for their Changing places toilet.
Out of the Major awards, Mc Donalds (England), Highland Council (Scotland), Asda (Wales) and Belfast City Council (Northern Ireland) won the entry for accessible toilets category.
In the Changing Places category, the Lookout Discovery Centre in Bracknell won for England, Thurso High School for Scotland, Canolfan Rheidol for Wales and in Northern Island the best was judged to be the Giants Causeway Visitor Centre.
